If a child misses a tuition payment then the child is sent home and must repeat the same school year again. which adds to the mental and emotional damage done to the self-image of an orphan. Tuition can be a large expense for the average family in Africa.

Healing An Orphaned Heart from Rejection

OHI President James Burkhardt shares a teaching to the conference  of Christian Songwriters and Musicians Intemnstiosl.

Forgiveness: The Key to an an Orphaned Heart Healing.

OHI Domesist Missionary and Evangelist Athena Pitsiko shares an excellent teaching principle to an Orphaned Heart Healing.

Defeating An Orphan Spirit

Teachings written by Janet Helms and James Burkhardt.

The Orphan Spirit: It is a demonic spirit from Satan, as a direct result of the fall of Man. Lucifer tempted Adam and Eve, and through their sin, they were separated from God - the ultimate experience of “Rejection” and “Fatherlessness. “

This spirit attaches to the Orphaned Wound in a person’s soul - the mind, the will and the emotions (which the Bible refers to as the “heart”). Proverbs 23:7 says “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he” It can be seen in a person’s heart attitude and as a mental stronghold (what the mind believes).

An Orphaned Spirit attacks well-being by stirring up negative emotions to dominate a person’s soul:

  • Anger
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Desperation
  • Disappointment
  • Fear
  • Insecurity
  • Jealousy
  • Offense
  • Pride
  • Resentment
  • Shame
  • Worry

All the above combine, creating bondages which manifests a  destructive behaviors like addictions, violence and wrongful soul ties; “Hurting people hurt people.”

The process for defeating an Orphan Spirit is

  1. Repentance - Repentance is the act of acknowledging and regretting past or current wrongdoings, and then committing to change for the better. It involves a change of heart and mind, and a turning away from sin and towards God for forgiveness.
  2.  An Orphan Spirit deludes one into denying God’s design for your life. True repentance leads to personal salvation and deliverance from all evil influences. (Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
  3. Reconciliation - Forgiveness for those who caused the heart wound by trauma, whether the relationships continue or not. Jesus , on the cross said, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” Because Father and Son forgave, I can forgive. (Matthew 16:14-15 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others sins,  your Father will not forgive your sins.)
  4. Restoration of the Soul - by the Indwelling of the Holy Spirit (Psalm 23:3  He restores my soul)
  5. Renewing of the Mind - by the Word of God. Bible Study, Prayer and Sound Doctrinal Teaching are necessary elements. (Romans 12:2  -  Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is His good, pleasing and perfect will.)
  6. Realization that “You Are Not Alone”. You Are Fearfully and Wonderfully Made by God the Father who has a Purpose and a Plan/Destiny for your life. (Matthew 14:18 “Jesus said, I will not leave you as orphans. I will come to you.)  (Psalm 139:14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.)

Symptoms of the Orphan Spirit:

  1. Independence - prefer solitude rather than socializing
  2. Hostility
  3. Contentiousness
  4. No sense of home, belonging or of being a son/daughter
  5. Thinks like a servant – not like a child of God (Prodigal Son)
  6. They strive for what they can get – they do not know the inheritance waiting for them in eternity as a child of God (The Brother in the Prodigal Son)
  7. They will likely resort to competing, stealing or begging
  8. They are afraid of intimacy, especially if they could never trust their parent or a relative.
  9. They are feel as if they are disposable and worthless as human beings

The Orphaned Heart:

A Human Wound – The heart has been broken by rejection, abandonment and loss - usually first by a parent. It is reinforced by rejection and abandonment throughout life from family, schoolmates and co-workers colleagues who sense their poor self image and weaknesses.

The Orphaned Heart is usually associated with lack of love from a Father, but a non-existent or abusive/narcissistic mother can reinforce the wound. They do not feel they have a safe place of value in the heart of a loving father.

Situations causing the Orphaned Heart:

  1. Parents divorce or separation
  2. Poverty
  3. Death of one or both parents
  4. Losses in life
  5. Broken relationships
  6. Emotional neglect: failure to hug, touch or express affection
  7. Any form of abuse whether verbal, emotional, sexual or physical creates deep wounds of rejection
  8. Fatherlessness. Born to a single mother with no father

The Spirit of Sonship: This is the spirit we receive as a child of God through the work of Jesus Christ on the Cross: “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” (Matthew 14:18).

It is an intimate relationship with God the Father available through the Holy Spirit who was sent after Jesus ascended into Heaven. The Father offers costly love to each of his children. They respond as God’s sons with a full and eternal inheritance as member of the Kingdom of God.

Storage Love: The Greek word for a Mother’s love. It represents a nurturing under girth a Mother gives so that a child can grow in stability and love.

A Father’s Love: Gives a child their identity and vision for their life. This love pulls them up for future calling. This love also represents inheritance and belonging into a family.

Ten Steps to Healing Your Orphaned Heart:

  1. Understand definitions - based on Biblical principles of “orphans”, “adoption”, “Fatherhood of God”, and being a “child of God”.
  2. Determine your Diagnosis to understand the degree and areas of your soul which are affected (use the Orphan Heart vs. Heart of Sonship Chart below).
  3. Begin to share your story with good listeners who God brings to you – preferably one-on-one or in small group settings with those on the same healing journey.
  4. Prepare the spiritual pathways for the Holy Spirit to work in you:  Accept Jesus; renounce evil and cult-like behaviors; invite the Holy Spirit into your heart.
  5. Ask Forgiveness and repent from any sinful ways you responded to rejection and abandonment from parents, society and as a result of cultural practices.
  6. Forgive yourself and others through the power of Jesus Christ – especially helpful are forgiving those who caused your earliest wounds of rejection and abandonment.
  7. Break generation curses. Complete and pray over your Family Generational Tree back to the 3rd or 4th generation (Exodus 20:5-6). Pardon is promised in Ezekiel 18:19-22).
  8. Receive Overcoming Prayer in groups of three who have been trained and/or you trust spiritually. Especially helpful is the healing painful memories.
  9. Find a safe spiritual family of believers to continue your healing through overcoming prayer, scripture study, accountability and love. Forming HOPE fellowships is an excellent means to do this.
  10. Pass this message on to others you love and where God places you. The greatest way to continue healing in your life from the orphaned heart wound is to help others heal.

May God be with you in this journey for healing to become free to be who God created you to be.
